Welcome to our redesigned website and thank you for visiting us! We wanted our site to reflect the people of DEDICATEDD. The question was: “What do you think of when you think of DEDICATEDD?” There were so many answers that deciding on what image (other than our logo) to put on our home page was a challenge. As you see, we chose butterflies. They are beautiful creatures who must experience a total metamorphosis.
As DWI victims, our “metamorphosis” often seems an impossible goal to attain. When our loved one is killed by a drunk driver, we are overwhelmed by grief and for a time lost in the darkness of despair. When a drunk driver seriously injures someone, that person too grieves for the one that has been taken, their pre-crash self. Grief is a long and arduous journey. But with the love and support of family and friends we reemerge, forever changed.
Butterflies are fragile creatures. At times, we may feel equally as fragile. There are days when I would like to pull the covers over my head and tell the world to go away and leave me alone. I have learned that it’s okay to have those days.
Butterflies also represent hope and new beginnings. Hope is what keeps DEDICATEDD’s mission alive. We know we can make a difference. We know we can help others and educate many. “Hopefully” we can change attitudes and prevent individuals from making the potentially lethal choice to drink and drive. Very often we fight uphill battles. But, armed with hope and dedication we will continue to do battle until we win the war.
