The Ignition Interlock Program
New York drivers who have lost their driving privilege due to an alcohol-related arrest may be allowed to obtain a limited driving privilege with an approved ignition interlock device installed.
What is an Ignition Interlock?
An ignition interlock is a device that, when installed in a motor vehicle, prevents a person from starting the engine after having consumed alcohol. The device records numerous activities including:

3. Alcohol level at random intervals while the vehicle is running.
4. Attempts to circumvent the device.
5. Dates and times the vehicle is operated.
